DOTTING I’S AND CROSSING T’S

Employment Contracts & Service Agreements

Smart business owners agree that the most valuable asset of their business, are its employees. However, they also know that preparing and negotiating employment contracts can be a little like rounding up cats. If you own or run a business, contact us to help you organise the paperwork while you to get back to running the show.

A personalised employment contact should clearly detail all the key items such as salary and entitlements, probation periods, performance management, confidentially, intellectual property, restraint, and termination.  If you need a hand to make sure all the necessary I’s are dotted, and the t’s crossed then make sure to contact us.

It is also good practice for the employment contract to be accompanied with a detailed copy of the businesses’ policy and procedure document. This document should provide all information in relation to workplace and online behaviour including, bullying, harassment, and discrimination.

WHAT’S MINE IS YOURS, IS OURS

Retail Leases.

If you have found the perfect premises for your business and are ready to get the doors open you will most likely need to considering signing a lease agreement.

A lease is an incredibly important document, it not only sets out the key terms of the agreement (i.e. permitted use of the premises, rental payments, and duration) but it is also a valuable tool in protecting you from any unwanted future disputes.

When it comes to leases for your business there are two main types – a retail lease and a commercial lease. Although they serve a similar function, due to different legal regulations the process for putting the leases in place is different.

In simple terms a retail lease will cover all premises that focus on retail selling (For example, a clothes store or cafΓ© ) while a commercial lease will be required for other types of business such as a factory, warehouse or office.

Before you sign a retail lease agreement – whether as the tenant or the landlord - it’s important to fully understand what you are agreeing to.  At Abbotts and Co we are here to help explain your rights and obligations and make sure that you are getting a fair go.

We look forward to assisting you on your path to success.
