FAQs

  • How do you operate? How does remote lawyering work?

At Abbotts & Co Lawyers, we believe that legal services should be accessible and friendly. Through our experience we have found that people often feel uncomfortable and nervous about visiting a solicitor in an impersonal and unfamiliar office, (without mentioning hours wasted sitting in a waiting room).

We know that we are able to serve our clients best when they are relaxed and comfortable. That’s why we feel strongly about coming to you in an environment where you feel most at ease – whether that is your home, a local cafΓ©, the beach, or online.

We also completely understand that for some the online world is far more alarming and, in the post-covid world they long for the return of physical handshakes and ink on paper. Regardless of how you prefer to work we can facilitate your legal needs with limited fuss and inconvenience.

Being remote and flexible allows us to service the entire stretch of the Mid North Coast. The freedom of not being chained to our desk allows us to spend more time genuinely connecting with our clients and the wider community… It also allows us to spend some time singing bangers as we travel up and down the highway visiting our friends.

  • Is it going to be expensive? How much will it all cost?

For us, lawyering has never been about getting rich; it’s more about who we are and why we get out of bed. We see our friends with legal worries, and we want to roll up our sleeves and help.

Although seeing a lawyer does come with an invoice, it should never cost you an arm and a leg. We are strong believers in keeping our prices as painless as possible so that more of our community can access legal services done the Abbotts & Co way.

In terms of how much our services cost, that is very much dependent on what we are assisting you with. At the beginning of all matters we will provide a transparent costs agreement so that you know what you are getting, right from the very start. As much as possible we also used fixed fee pricing so that you can budget with total confidence.

  • What do I need to get organised before our meeting?

Generally our first meeting will be an informal chat where we will get to know you and the background of your legal matter. This is always an obligation free conversation so you can test the waters and make sure we are the right team for you.

Before our meetings you may wish to prepare by collecting information about your matter or jot down some of the questions that have been playing on your mind.

Following the initial meeting we will develop a personalised progress plan; this will involve providing you with a detailed list of all that is required every step of the way.

  • I previously did a will with another lawyer, am I stuck with them now?

If you have been getting your coffee at the same old cafΓ© for years you may be missing out on some sweet new beans up the road. Although we never encourage change just for the sake of change, we do encourage you to find a lawyer who you feel most comfortable with.

Regarding your will, a solicitor will often retain the original document for safe keeping on your behalf. However, it’s important to remember that the Will belongs to you, and you are free to move your documents to another solicitor or collect them yourself.

Furthermore, if you pass away your executors (the people named in your will to take care of things) are not obligated to remain with the same law firm who hold the original will. Your executors may decide to collect the will and take it to their friends in the law.

  • How do I move my matter from another law firm to Abbotts & Co Lawyers?

Being trusted with an individual’s legal matter is the highest of compliments a lawyer can receive. We are especially proud when we see new clients acknowledging our difference and moving their matter (or storage of their important legal documents such as a will) into our safe and dedicated hands.

At any time should you wish for us to step in you only need to ask! We will gather all the required information and make the transfer happen seamlessly (and free of charge).

We look forward to working with you 😊

  • Who will be handling my matter? How will I contact them?

Abbotts & Co Lawyers are not a large corporate law firm, based in downtown Sydney or somewhere across the sea. We live and work right here on the beautiful Mid North Coast of New South Wales and we’re not going anywhere. Because of that you may see our team members at your local Woolies or sharing your favourite beach.

With Abbotts & Co Lawyers the hope is that you will get to know your lawyer on both a personal and professional level. Working with us will have direct access to a cohesive team of local legal legends.

Your matter will not be shuffled around different staff in different departments, and your calls will never go through a frustrating call centre. When you call us, we will answer - we like to keep things simple.
